Bollywood star Sridevi Kapoor gone
Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor’s funeral has taken place in Mumbai,
giving her fans the chance to say goodbye to the film icon.
The Indian movie star died after suffering a heart attack and then ‘accidentally drowning’ it has been ruled.
Sridevi was known for being Bollywood’s first female superstar, who first hit the big screen in the 1960s.
Reports claim she was attending her nephew’s wedding in Dubai when she suffered the fatal heart attack on 24 February.

Her husband was in their hotel suite at the time, and knocked then
forced open the door to see the actor ‘lying motionless in a bathtub
full of water’, according to the Khaleej Times.
‘He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of
his. After that, he informed the police at 9pm,’ the report says,
quoting a source.
The death was confirmed by Sridevi’s brother-in-law, actor Sanjay
Kapoor, who told IANS: ‘Yes, it is true.’ She was 54 at the time of her
death.
Sridevi was born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in Tamil Nadu, a south Indian state, and she began acting at the tender age of four.

In 1979 she made her Bollywood debut in Solva Sawan (16th Spring),
and four years later she secured her reputation in Hindi film with
another role in Balu Mahendra’s Sadma (Shock).
Her other movies include Chaalbaaz (Trickster), Lamhe (Moments),
Himmatwala (The Courageous One), Chandni (Moonlight), and Shekhar
Kapur’s Mr India.
Her characters were often much more feisty, funny and outspoken than the stereotypical Bollywood heroine.

Sridevi married film producer husband Boney Kapoor, 62, in 1996, and
they had two daughters together, before Sridevi returned to film in
2012’s English Vinglish and most recently in 2017 movie Mom.
The actress was given the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian awards, for her services to the film industry in 2013.
So influential was Sridevi that the Indian Prime Minister has released a statement about her death.
PM Narendra Modi tweeted: ‘Saddened by the untimely demise of noted
actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career
included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with
her family and admirers in this hour of grief.’
Meanwhile Indian actress and Baywatch star Priyanka Chopra tweeted:
‘I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved Sridevi. A dark day.
RIP.’
Sridevi is survived by her husband and daughters Janhvi, 20, and Kushi, 17.
